Taxi owners are taking to the streets today, Wednesday 22 November, in Thessaloniki, participating in the 24-hour strike mobilization of the PDOIATA. The sector is reacting to the government’s tax bill for freelancers that is currently under public consultation.

Many professional drivers have already gathered in Michael Psellou Street since the morning and will be followed by a taxi march to the Ministry of Macedonia and Thrace, where a public resolution will be served with other freelancers in the city.
“The new tax bill must not be passed. Strike until we are vindicated,” they said in a statement.

In detail, their statement said:

“On Wednesday, November 22, the Thessaloniki Taxi Union participates in the 24-hour nationwide strike announced by POEIATA for the new tax bill. The strike starts at 05:00 on Wednesday morning until 05:00 on Thursday morning.

On Wednesday at 09:30 all taxis will gather at Michael Psellou Street and will be followed by a taxi march to the Ministry of Macedonia and Thrace, where a public resolution will be served and other freelancers in the city.

The presence of all colleagues is necessary!!!!

There will be ONLY the three radio taxis of Thessaloniki (TAXIWAY, MERCEDES, MAKEDONIA).

Also there will be cars for information and alert patrol cars in all parts of Thessaloniki.

Mobilizations are organized by dozens of self-employed and freelance organizations across the country.

The protesters are due to meet in Athens at 11.30am at Omonia, where a rally will be held followed by a march to the Finance Ministry. Specific decisions to abstain from work or strike have been taken, apart from taxi owners, lawyers, private doctors, notaries, catering business owners, traders – craftsmen, etc..
