AIA ranked 9th in Europe in the week 23 – 29 August
The pandemic has caused huge shifts in air transport, with negative consequences – especially – for legacy carriers and hub airports.
It is indicative that Athens airport, in the summer season, is outnumbered by London Heathrow airport in terms of flights, due to the tourist flows to Greece.
Eurocontrol published its list of the busiest airports last week (23 – 29 August), according to which Schiphol Airport is in 1st place, with 1,074 flights/day, followed by Istanbul (1,015 flights), Paris, Frankfurt and Antalya.
Spain had the most airports in the top 10, with Palma (725) and Barcelona (703), followed by Madrid (757).
Athens ranked 9th, with 701 flights/day, surpassing Heathrow (673 flights).
