The Athens International Airport (AIA) passenger traffic further increased in July, with a steady recovery of the traffic limitations as early as mid-May 2021 and summer peak holidays.

Naturally, the passenger flow at the airport was still considerably affected by the coronavirus crisis (Covid-19) in July and its effect on air travel, as it did in previous months.

In July total traffic was 1.854.005 passengers according to AIA’s most recent data and was below the levels in July 2019 by 37.8%. However, traffic grew by 107.5% compared to July 2020.

The local market improvement was more apparent, with traffic below 26.1% in 2019, and with global market demand showing indications of recovery, with a 43% decrease in comparison with the equivalent trafficks of 2019.

Overall, Athens airport traffic was 4.5 million in passengers during the seven months of January to July 2021, a decrease of around 5.7% compared to 2020 and 68.3% compared to 2019, due to the steep reduction in passenger traffic since March 2020, caused by the impact of the pandemic.
